Time for an update... (not listening to music right now!)

It seems that every time I resolve to update my blog, something gets in the way. I really should be more disciplined and update a lot more. As I type, I am sitting in the lobby of the Hilton Boston Airport hotel. It's a huge open lobby, very grand, and the centrepiece to a large hotel. There's just one problem..... It's soul-less. There's no ambiance, no atmosphere. People are milling around, checking in, waiting for shuttle buses, typing feverishly on laptops (like me!), but it's dead... the coffee bar is deserted, "Connoly's Irish Bar" is deserted... it's like being in a library.

So, why, you might ask, are you sitting there? Well, I decided not to join Graham and Carole on their trip to Harvard and MIT today. I guess the last few weeks of travelling have caught up with me (Vancouver last week, Boston this week), and I feel like I should take advantage of any downtime I can get. I wanted to go swimming in the hotel pool this morning but when I went down there, it was full (suprisingly, as in my experience people rarely use the pool in these "transit" hotels). I went back to my room and just veg'd out, watching TV, browsing the web, and wasting time. It felt good not to have things to do for a short time. Saying that, I am looking forward to starting work later on.

I'm debating whether to buy a new laptop (again!). Best Buy has a new HP laptop which is kind of based around this one, but the same price as I paid 3 months ago! It has double the memory, a faster processor, and a slightly better graphics card... and it's *not* broken down like this one. I am still to contact HP to re-arrange collection of this thing to get the motherboard and USB ports fixed. I am considering just getting a new one, and getting this fixed and putting it on ebay. After all, it's still a great value laptop, it just needs repaired. I can't really live without USB ports (that sounds like the ultimate geek statement) but it's really vital to be able to (a) listen to the iPod (b) get tunes from iTunes onto the iPod, (c) charge things up, (d) connect memory sticks (e) download camera pictures etc etc etc... I don't know... I guess I'll consider it while i wait for Graham and Carole to come back from their trip.

When they return, the plan is to eat lunch then drive an hour south to Warwick, and check in to the Hilton Garden Inn. I don't feel too bad about missing my swim this morning as I know i'll be able to swim there this afternoon before we go to work :) Happy days....
